Bruised but not Broken
Persecuted, Yet Not Forsaken
Day 3
“Persecuted, but not forsaken.” – 2 Corinthians 4:9a (KJV)
Rejection and mistreatment sting deeply. For Paul, persecution wasn’t theoretical—he was beaten, stoned, imprisoned, and falsely accused. Yet his testimony was clear: “Persecuted, but not forsaken.”
We may not all face imprisonment for our faith, but persecution wears many faces. It can be seen in the Christian student mocked in class for believing the Bible. It’s the worker ridiculed for refusing dishonest practices. It’s the believer in hostile regions of the world who risks their life to attend worship. In some countries today, Christians meet underground, singing quietly so as not to be arrested. Persecution remains real in 2025. Even in societies where faith is tolerated, persecution may come through isolation, ridicule, or rejection by family and friends. In an age of social media, one post about your convictions can bring a flood of criticism. Yet the promise still holds: we are never forsaken. God stands closer than ever in our times of rejection.
Application
Being forsaken by people can leave scars, but God’s presence fills the void. Jesus Himself warned that His followers would face persecution (John 15:20). He, too, was “despised and rejected of men” (Isaiah 53:3). Yet His Father never abandoned Him until He bore our sins at Calvary.
If you’ve felt the sting of rejection, let this truth comfort you: people may walk away, but heaven never will. In the fire, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego found that the Son of God was with them. In the lions’ den, Daniel discovered angelic protection. In your trial, you too will find God’s presence is closer than the breath you breathe.
Ellen White reminds us: “The children of God will be ridiculed and scorned, but God does not forsake them. His presence is with them in affliction” (Testimonies, vol. 5, p. 432).
Ellen G. White Insight
“As the storm approaches, a large class who have professed faith in the third angel’s message… abandon their position and join the ranks of the opposition. But not one who is resting in Christ is forsaken.” – The Great Controversy, p. 608
