Broken but not Bruised

Bearing the Dying of Jesus

Day 5

“Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body.” – 2 Corinthians 4:10 (KJV)

Reflection

Paul’s words remind us that suffering is not just random pain—it connects us with Christ. To “bear the dying of Jesus” means that in our hardships, we share in His sacrifice. The cross was not only His burden; it becomes ours as we follow Him.  In a world that glorifies comfort and success, this truth feels foreign. Yet it is in our bruises, our losses, and even our tears that the likeness of Christ is formed in us. Just as His wounds brought salvation to the world, our trials can bear witness to His sustaining power.

Think of the Christian nurse who continues serving patients with compassion despite losing her own family member in a tragedy. Or the believer enduring cancer who uses every hospital visit to share hope with others. These are modern echoes of “bearing the dying of Jesus”—lives that preach Christ through suffering.

Application

To bear the dying of Jesus is not to live in despair, but in purpose. Our hardships become a platform for His glory. When we respond with faith instead of bitterness, forgiveness instead of revenge, hope instead of despair, the life of Jesus shines through us.

Ellen White captures it well: “It is the fragrance of our love to Christ that we bear about with us… The cross will test every soul.” (The Desire of Ages, p. 131). Every trial we endure with faith becomes an opportunity for Christ to be revealed.  Your suffering is not wasted. God is weaving your pain into a testimony. The world may only see weakness, but heaven sees the reflection of Jesus.

Ellen G. White Insight

“Christ is seeking to reproduce Himself in the hearts of men; and He does this through those who believe in Him.” – Christ’s Object Lessons, p. 67
