Bruised but not Broken
Bruised but not Broken
Day 7
“We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed.” – 2 Corinthians 4:8–9 (KJV)
Paul’s words sum up the tension of the Christian journey. Life bruises us. Troubles press us, confusion unsettles us, persecution wounds us, and setbacks knock us down. Yet the testimony of God’s children remains the same: bruised, but not broken. The headlines remind us daily that the world itself is bruised. Families torn apart by war. Nations crushed by disaster. Communities are grieving senseless violence. Even in our personal lives, the bruises are real — broken homes, lingering illness, betrayal, financial strain, and mental battles. But the miracle of faith is this: though the blows are real, they do not have the power to break us when Christ holds us.
Think of Joseph, bruised by betrayal but preserved for purpose. Think of Job, cast down by loss yet lifted by faith. Think of Jesus, who bore the ultimate bruises at Calvary so we could rise again. Each story points us to a greater reality: God’s people may fall, but they will not be destroyed.
Application
Your bruises are not wasted. Every scar you carry can become a testimony of God’s sustaining power. Paul reminds us in Romans 8:37, “In all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.” The same God who kept Paul, Job, and Joseph will keep you.
And one day, every bruise will be erased. As the song says: “Bruised and battered, weary and worn, oh but we shall be like Him on that resurrection morn.” That promise is not wishful thinking — it is guaranteed by the empty tomb.
So hold on. You may be weary, but you are not abandoned. You may be cast down, but you are not destroyed. You may be bruised, but in Christ, you are never broken.
Ellen G. White Insight
“When the warfare is ended, and the saints of God are glorified, then they will look back with thankfulness upon every trial which God permitted, seeing in them the fulfillment of His perfect plan.” – Early Writings, p. 67
